Former State Rep. Terese Berceau endorses John Imes for State Senate

Former long-time state legislator will serve as campaign treasurer

Elected official, environmental nonprofit leader and small business owner John Imes was endorsed today by former State Representative Terese Berceau, who represented the 76th and 77th Assembly districts for two decades. Imes is a Democrat running in the 26th Senate District for the seat long held by Senator Fred Risser who will not seek re-election this fall.


The 26th Senate District includes the 76th, 77th and 78th Assembly Districts that comprise the City of Madison and the Village of Shorewood Hills.


“John Imes has been an active, progressive voice in the district for more than two decades. He understands complex policy issues and brings a cooperative, practical, and effective approach to solving problems. He’s also the environmental leader we sorely need and brings a uniquely diverse experience to serve the 26th District well and build coalitions to win back a Democratic majority,” said Berceau.

John Imes is Executive Director of Wisconsin Environmental Initiative, a nonprofit organization he co-founded in 1996. As an elected Board Trustee for the Village of Shorewood Hills since 2012, John also serves as Village President Pro Tem, Finance Committee Chair and is a member of the Plan Commission and Joint Campus Area Committee. John is also Chair of the Village planning process for the Garden Homes Neighborhood and previously served as Chair of the Personnel Committee for 7 years.


John also serves on the Monroe Street Merchants Association Board and as an adviser to several initiatives including the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters Climate & Energy Leadership Network, the Edgewood College, Social Innovation and Sustainability Leadership Program and the American Sustainable Business Council Climate and Energy Working Group.


John and his wife Cathie also own the Arbor House, an award-winning model for sustainable tourism located on Monroe Street. The Imes have four children – Jack, Cora, Ben and Grace.


The date for the primary election is Tuesday, Aug. 11th and the general election is Nov. 3rd.
